Client Accounting Services (CAS) for Houston Small Businesses
You should be able to look at your numbers and understand what they mean for your business. JAG CPA & Co. helps Houston owners build that connection, starting with accurate books and adding reporting or CFO-style guidance when the decisions call for it.
Our accounting and advisory services follow three levels: Foundation, Focus, and Ascent. Start with the work you need today. Add support when it has a clear purpose.
CAS vs. Bookkeeping (What changes as you move up)
Bookkeeping establishes the record. Reconciled accounts and financial statements help you see what happened.
Advisory connects that record to a decision. Which jobs are producing a useful margin? What is driving overhead? Can the business fund the next hire? Focus and Ascent add different levels of analysis to help work through those questions.
Tax planning and tax preparation are separately scoped. Running payroll, sending customer invoices, and paying bills are not automatically included in monthly accounting.
Packages & What’s Included
Foundation — Get the books in order
For owners who need a dependable monthly accounting record. The agreed work can include transaction categorization, bank and credit-card reconciliations, basic loan tracking, payroll summary entries, and financial statements.
Foundation centers on the books. KPI dashboards, scheduled advisory conversations, and forecasting belong in a separately agreed level of support.
Focus — Understand what the numbers are telling you
Build on the accounting with selected performance measures and a review of the results. We focus on the figures that connect to your decisions, such as margin, overhead, or budget versus actual results.
Your engagement sets the reporting measures, review schedule, and work included. More reports are useful only if they help you act.
Ascent — Plan the next move
For owners working through decisions that need deeper analysis. This level adds CFO-style guidance, forecasts, and scenarios to help evaluate cash needs, hiring, pricing, or growth.
We agree on the questions to address, the information available, and the deliverables before work begins. Job costing, department reporting, or other specialized analysis requires its own scope.
How your service is quoted
Your quote follows the work your business actually needs. We review the number of accounts and entities, transaction activity, condition of the records, and the reporting or advisory support you want.
The engagement identifies the fee, included work, reporting and meeting schedule, and how additional work is handled. Setup, prior-period cleanup, and specialized projects are identified separately when needed.
A basic bookkeeping engagement and a forecast for a major business decision are different jobs. We make that distinction clear before you commit.
Onboarding & Timeline
- Confirm the fit and scope. After your consultation request is reviewed and confirmed, we discuss your goals, current records, and the support that makes sense.
- Arrange secure access. We identify the records and system access needed, along with any cleanup or setup work.
- Set the first close and responsibilities. Agree on what you will provide, when it is due, and when reporting can begin.
- Use the results. Deliver the agreed reports and, where included, discuss the measures and decisions that matter.
FAQs
Will you send invoices or pay our bills?
Daily accounts receivable and accounts payable work is not automatic CAS coverage. Tell us what you need so we can address it explicitly in the engagement.
Does monthly accounting include tax returns?
No. Tax planning and return preparation are separate services with their own scope and fees.
Can the service change as the business changes?
Yes. We can revisit the level of support and agree on a revised engagement when your needs change.
What if I only need help with one decision?
A bounded advisory project may fit better than a recurring service. Start with the decision, and we can discuss the appropriate work.
